Description:

"The Maelström" was a catastrophe that decimated humanity following an uprising in the USA and a subsequent global nuclear war in 2019. To preserve humankind, the World Health Organization (WHO) has assumed worldwide political power and redefined society, where people are now considered public resources and are guaranteed a happier life. The advancement of medicine, nanomachine technology, and augmented reality has led to a greater devotion to human health. Despite the excessive kindness of Japanese society, Miach Mihie, a high school student, decides to oppose its dehumanizing societal values before the WatchMe health implant surveillance system activates on her 18th birthday. Together with her friends Tuan Kirie and Cian Reikadou, they plan to commit suicide. However, Cian betrays the pact and allows Tuan to survive, unlike Miach, who is declared dead. Thirteen years later, Tuan, now a high-ranking inspector of Helix, an organization affiliated with WHO to monitor military conflicts, is sent back to Japan after her drug smuggling activities in the Niger warzone are discovered by senior Helix inspector Oscar Stauffenberg. On her return, thousands of people simultaneously commit suicide, and Tuan is tasked with investigating and exposing the terrorist organization behind the unprecedented attack.
