Description:
The protagonist of the story, Tokiko Mima, goes by the nickname "Key" and is a robot despite her physical resemblance to a human 17-year-old girl. After her grandfather Dr. Murao Mima passes away, he instructs her in his dying message that she can achieve human form by forging 30,000 friendships. With this goal in mind, Key relocates from the secluded Mamio Valley of Japan to Tokyo's bustling streets where she reunites with a dear childhood friend, Sakura Kuriyagawa. While in Tokyo, Key discovers a passionate interest in Miho Utsuse, a famous singer, and wonders if pursuing a similar dream will help her make the much-needed friends to become a human. However, Miho has a dark secret - her connections to Jinsaku Ajou, who was a former adversary of Dr. Mima and is working on a revolutionary robotic weapon. Even as Key strives to complete her transformation, Ajou puts his dangerous plans into motion, revealing that Key is more than just an ordinary robot.
