Patema is a brave young girl hailing from an underground society with an intricate web of passageways. Despite her esteemed position, she is frequently reprimanded for her continuous exploration of these tunnels, being spurred on by her friend's inexplicable disappearance. Unwittingly crossing into the "prohibited zone," Patema startles and tumbles down an unfathomably deep abyss following her encounter with a peculiar creature. Emerging from her plummet, Patema finds herself in a world turned topsy-turvy, seemingly floating towards the sky. Luckily, she is saved by Age, a disillusioned Aigan student raised to believe that individuals like Patema - known as "Inverts" - are unholy beings destined to be "sucked up by the sky." Defying his indoctrination, Age pledges to safeguard his newfound comrade. Two curious teenagers' fortuitous meeting escalates into a journey of investigating two extraordinary worlds, collaborating toward divulging their shared provenances in Sakasama no Patema - an inspiring film emphasizing the significance of harmonious coexistence despite differences.
