Description:
Set in Japan's Shouwa Genroku era (1960s to early 1970s), the story follows the journey of a mature prisoner who is granted early release on account of his exemplary behavior. Branded a dim-witted man, he embraces the nickname of Yotarou as he starts afresh with rakugo, a traditional style of comic storytelling. Inspired by the masterful Yakumo, who is known as the "grim reaper," Yotarou seeks to become his apprentice. The majority of the show explores Yakumo's traumatic experiences during World War II and the years that followed. It's worth noting that the opening episode stretches for 48 minutes rather than the customary 24-minute runtime.
